But also, I don't know how good Davenport Central are this year, I know they are usually very decent.

They certainly aren’t the Andy Empey Galesburg that once looked like it could compete with Morton but they’re still a force to be reckoned with. If you interrogate the recap from Dunlap, the judges in every caption disagreed between Galesburg vs. IVC which, to me, is a prime example of inconsistent judging. Today will be their test, I think. And it’s in the new house of the person who made them a ‘household’ name again. They’ve got serious competition at Morton. If they compete and hang in the top three of their class, I am not as worried about them.

I don't think getting third in their class will mean very much- it will matter more if their scores are close.

The scores definitely do matter more, and I'm excited to see how they do against their competitors tonight It's gonna be close. Galesburg, in my opinion, is still growing throughout the season! I've seen a lot of people talk about inconsistent judging during Dunlap when comparing IVC and Galesburg, but to me, looking at the individual captions, the scores seemed far too close to make the flip-flops inconsistent. I'm probably missing something here though, so please don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong.

TheAngryBavarian
Wasn't an Illinois competition, but got to see Collinsville, Quincy, and Mater Dei at the Washington (MO) competition, finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 5th respectively. Some notes from that: Collinsville are 30 kids away from being a lock for ISU Finals (in my admittedly biased opinion as an alum...). Show design is solid...Execution is (generally speaking) as good as I've seen from them in the decade I've been paying close attention to them. Quincy's show is fun and LOUD (and executed quite well), but isn't especially complex in terms of design. Curious to see how'd they do if they were going to ISU this year... Mater Dei are doing some heavy lifting for a band with 40? kids...their ballad especially is showcasing some extreme maturity from the winds. Don't know what Watseka have this year, but they're my pick for the 1A Title at IMBC this year.

As long as I can remember, Galesburg’s shows have been impactful, loud, and captivating when they’ve been successful. While this one is a good production, maybe it just doesn’t have the wow factor. They are absolutely and unequivocally playing better than say 2021 Galesburg for example and even that band was beating the bands Galesburg is now falling short of. I’d love this to be a conversation. I hate seeing great bands underperforming.

Execution wise they killed it but the other bands there were very competitive and amazing, too.

Surely there's going to be changes for ISU because they also have a competitive class there. I think their show isn't helping highlighting their talent like previous years, but we will see how it turns out at the state competition.
rvillemarcher
I was in New Lenox for Providence's Competition and here's what I saw. Dwight D. Eisenhower put on a great show, I always love their powerful shows for a 1A band. The 10-point difference between DDE and the rest of the 1A is always mind-blowing because DDE has a history of scoring high in their class, but I wasn't expecting 10 points. All the 2A bands in my opinion were great! Wheaton North in particular sticks out to me because I loved their show theme it's great, it just needs a little cleaning and it's great! Warren Township... every time I see this show it gives me chills.. This band is a real contender for ISU finals this year.
