Okie dokie...

With TOTAL ACKNOWLEGEMENT that predictions for the first week, is almost entirely a reputation game and that competitive results neither validate/invalidate the student experience... here are some predications and thoughts.

Three long running, iconic early season shows for bands in the Chicagoland area and Central Illinois!

A.A. Stagg Jamboree: Palos Hills, IL

Class 1A
Eisenhower is my pick in class 1A, but will be cool to see how things pan out. Bloom is still a relative newcomer to the competitive scene and its been fun to have them in the mix in the last few years.

Class 2A
Victor J Andrew is my 2A and OVERALL pick. The success of Andrew in the Fall and Winter seasons, along with their outstanding concert program, make them a true leader in the state. Much respect to this program!

Class 3A
Romeoville is my 3a pick, but could be a close one!

Exciting to have the Marching Illini up in the Chicagoland area for a show!

Lake Park Lancer Joust: Roselle, IL

Class 1A
I'm thinking this is a pretty tight class! I'll go with HD Jacobs if I have to choose.

Class 2A
Lake Central is once of several programs that has come across state lines in the last several years to compete, and is my pick for 2A

Class 3A
Prospect is my 3A and overall pick, BUT I'll also go so far as to say that I predict a closer margin between these three than some might expect. Not as any sort of dig to Prospect, but as acknowledgment to the GREAT product that Hersey and Plainfield North have put out in recent years.

Washington Marching Panther Invitational: Washington, IL

Can anyone explain the class breakdown at Washington? I'm genuinely curious.

Class 1A
Watseka has won their class at Washington for quite a while, and I expect this to be no different.

Class 2A
This one could be a close call. Tri-Vally came out on top last year, but Rock Falls was a head of Tri-Vally later in the season.

Class 3A
These three were in different classes last year, with Eureka scoring the highest. I'll go with Metamora this year as my pick, but anything could happen.

Class 4A
Three programs that each have great history. I am picking East Peoria, but like 2a/3a, this one WILL be close.

Class 5A
Both very solid band programs in 5a! Joliet West is my pick here though.

Class 6A
Lasalle-Peru ended their season on a BIG HIGH NOTE last year. But Kewanee has won this class before. My pick is LP, but we'll see what happens!

Class 7A
IVC is my pick here, and a special shout out to them for HOSTING a brand new show this year!

Class 8A
It would be hard to not pick Morton here. Many will probably be inclined to look at the score gap between Morton and the rest of the field. I wouldn't read too much into it at this point. The three groups here will likely all have varying degrees of partial shows. The reality is that for these groups, the first show out is really about getting a quality practice run, iron out show day logistics, and get an initial read from judges.

From my cruise ship in Alaska:

 Lake Park:

A: Wheaton Warrenville South

AA: Lake Central, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Naperville Central wins it.  Lake Central is no where near where they used to be.

AAA: Prospect

 Grand Champion: Prospect

Washington:

1A: Watseka

2A: Rock Falls

 3A: Eureka

4A: East Peoria

 5A: Joliet West

 6A: La-Salle Peru

7A: IVC

8A: Morton

Stagg:

1A: Eisenhower

2A: VJA

3A: Plainfield Central
