I know it's nuts to say this, but if we're going with the notion of 2 Chicago area shows/weekend, we're QUICKLY running out of time.

ย

We've got Lake Park/Stagg 9/12, CMBF 9/19, VJA/NIU 9/26, Downers Grove South/Plainfield South 10/3, Naperville Central 10/10, and Prospect, Providence Catholic, Romeoville, Lincoln-Way, Rich Township still have to find a weekend.

Bands of Americaย Indianapolis - 10/16-17/2026

Bands of America St. Louis - 10/16-17/2026

Both Super Regionals are tentative. Which bands will forgo ISU for BOA or vice versa? Or who will perform at both? My brain hurts thinking of all the possibilities.ย

Ugh, this nonsense of two super regionals on the same day better not happen again.

I believe ISU would take the hit if both regionals are hosted the same week. Many bands are ditching ISU altogether. On the other hand, itโ€™s a perfect opportunity for fresh faces to perform at Hancock Stadium.

Honestly, we're not going to get any fresh faces at ISU if both super regionals, ISU and WIU are the same day.

As much as it's great when many Illinois bands participate in a show at an Illinois university, there are significant benefits of going to StL or Indy ---> indoors.

Regardless of the weather outside, 1) you will get to perform, and 2) you will perform in ideal conditions. Plus, students are get to see more top-tier programs.

There may be additional costs and efforts to get to these regionals, but if it's doable, I think it's worth it.

They did have lightning delays at St. Louis this year, I will say

If both Supers and ISU are on the same day and I'm Morton and Marian. What is more beneficial? I think we know where LW and Offalon land. I think we know where a Plainfield and Prospect land. But Marian and Morton. What do you do?

I believe Morton will stick with ISU. Maybe the perfect time to take a trip like Disney. And going to a regional in the area will still give kids the BOA experience. IMO

Morton has a very strong culture built around ISU. They are extremely proud of their 2A streak & the students, parents, & alumni would very upset to see that broken because a super regional was prioritized. With O'Fallon & LW almost certainly attending Super Regionals, Morton will view that as a perfect opportunity to go & win another trophy at ISU. As well, with their current GN rotation, they likely won't be going next year. Next year will likely be a more relaxed year for them in regards to BOA, with mostly local shows & maybe a regional or two.

Morton did finish behind the 6th place ISU finisher at Grand Nationals, so I am not sure that anything is a certainty. The overall titles don't really seem to mean that much anymore anyway. Whether Oโ€™Fallon or LW show, any number of other bands could take ISU. Not worth scheduling simply for that. Would be a poor idea.ย

That said, the two groups with the longest ISU class champion streaks could be theoretically attend both events and ditch one of the finals performance / exhibition opportunities.ย

So just so I'm clear - on the Grand Nats thread you said that "there are no great bands in IL right now," so, no sense in going to a BOA, right? But also ISU overall title doesn't mean anything? So they shouldn't prioritize going there either? But then you seem to imply if LW doesn't show then the ISU Grand Champ has less legitimacy? But also their 3 HS "experiment" has been disappointing? I dunno man, if LW isn't really that good and Morton isn't really that good and the 3 bands that made semis at Nats (as many or more than any states that aren't Texas I believe...) aren't really that good then I guess I don't know marching band as well as I thought I did.

Not to disagree at all, but whenย does marching band make sense?
