Before I forget and people start making predictions, BOA Super regional finalists are picked a little differently.  There's 2 sets of judges that switch off at each break in St. Louis, so the top 5 bands from each panel make finals.  Then, the next 4 highest scoring bands regardless of class/panel make finals as well.  It's conceivable to have a 9/5 split in finalists.

Notables on each panel:

Panel 1:

  • Bentonville, AR
  • Moe & Gene Johnston, TX
  • Cabot, AR
  • Millard West, NE
  • Rosemount, MN
  • Lincoln, SD
  • Jenks, OK
  • Broken Arrow, OK
  • Blue Springs South, MO
  • Grain Valley, MO
  • Bixby, OK
  • Camdenton, MO
  • Fossil Ridge, CO

Panel 2:

  • Rockwood Summit, MO
  • Bellevue West, NE
  • O'Fallon Township
  • Bellevue East, NE
  • Colleyville Heritage, TX
  • Prospect
  • Morton
  • Owasso, OK
  • Blue Springs, MO

Excited for the class 5A match up!!

1. Washington Community (Might be close!)

2. Illinois Valley Central

3. East Peoria

Washington has had some bad luck at Dunlap in recent 5+ years. They should win their class, but with this year's show they've had a pattern where one mistake leads to another and then another- and can't quite seem to recover. There were a lot of broken hearts missing ISU finals by .25, - it will be interesting to see how they respond.

East Peoria had a 64.9 in the prelims at ISU, then 77.5 and Grand Champs at Metamora that same night. I would expect their score at Dunlap closer to the middle of the 2-so 71ish. They have to follow the technically sound/marching IVC and large and loud Washington.

IVC- Can a smaller band keep up with EP and Washington? Performing first in their class may be an advantage- they will set the benchmark for technical skill and sound. The next 2 bands are bigger and louder, but that doesn't mean better.

** all 3 schools are competing the following week at U of I, but in different classes and brackets.

If we remember, Washington got beat by Eureka in 2022, and while I would love to say that was deserved... No. As well, IVC beat Galesburg last year for grand champ so I lean towards taking Dunlap's scores worth a grain of salt.

For those interested, here's the St. Louis Super prelims classes to the best of my figuring. If there's a number by the class it means I couldn't find a previous BOA class and guessed based off their enrollment (BOA does classes by 10th-12th grade enrollment so guessing is the best I could do) and if there's a score it's from last year's St. Louis regional unless otherwise indicated.

Yeah - our 57.95 felt awfully low last year, but we were the first band on for panel 2 AND are an itty bitty band. Hoping to be back in the low to mid 60s again this year 🙂

I like band!

Just saw this on Facebook: “We regret to inform you that due to the forecasted weather for Saturday, October 18th, the 2025 Lincoln-Way Marching Invitational is officially cancelled. There is not a scenario where outdoor performance would be sustainable or safe for every student involved. Thank you for your support of the Lincoln-Way Marching Band program, and we hope you will join us in 2026!”

Well this sucks.

I remember the good old days at LWC in 2004 when it rained and rained and rained and rained and rained.  (Grass field back in those days).  15 bands marched before Marian, LWC, Naperville North, LWE and United Township decided not to and did standstills.

Our band was one of those early groups!

I recall seeing multiple bands retrieve shoes from the field (mud) after their performances that day.  I also remember watching the poor maintenance guy try to run the paint machine through the mud to try and reline the field during the competition.  Those were the good ol' days!

Morton should win 2A and sweep captions. The thing to watch for me, is whether Morton can finally get past 10th in finals. They just can't seem to get over that hump, even with weaker fields in past years. This year's competition seems tougher/deeper than usual, but I believe they can do it. Also throwing Prospect in there because why not. Only a little IL bias haha.

I'm just super excited and hope all the bands have the best performances they could ask for.  I do have a specific band that I hope does amazing but at the end of the day(s) I just hope the kids are happy and proud of everything they've accomplished.
