Predictions for September 24, 2011

Week 3 is now upon us.  Let’s get right to the predictions!

Chicagoland Marching Band Festival: Wheeling, IL

Class 1A: With all of these bands in their second week of competition, this looks like a good class!  We think Glenbrook North will take third, Alan B Shepard second, and Lincoln-Way West will win this class for their second title of the season.

Class 2A: Another very competitive class here.  After a strong showings at Lake Park, we think Waubonsie Valley will take third, followed by Downers Grove South, and Victor J. Andrew will secure it’s third class title of the year.

Class 3A: Yet another extremely difficult class to call here.  Lockport looks to take third followed by Morton in their first week of competition, and Prospect will take this class (as well as Grand Champion) in an extremely close race.

Mt. Zion Marching Music Games: Mt. Zion, IL

Class A: A difficult class to predict here.  We think  McCluer North, MO will win, Sangamon Valley in 2nd, and Sullivan in 3rd.

Class AA: Lincoln looks to take this class, Rushville-Industry in 2nd, and Mattoon in 3rd.

Class AAA: Obviously an easy pick here.  Monticello is the only band in the class, and will win Grand Champion as well.

Pontiac Indian Showdown: Pontiac, IL

1A: Eureka should win this class without issue.

2A: This is U-High’s first show of the season, so it will be difficult to really know how hard they will come out swinging. For this reason, we will go with Streator.

3A: Joliet West is coming off a strong performance at Washington and looks to continue their success this week.

Grand Champion: Last year was a bit of a surprise with Eureka winning this title. Can they do it again? Possibly, but for now we will go with Joliet West.

Danville Viking Invitational: Danville, IL

Class A:  A good class here.  We think Georgetown-Ridge Farm will win here, followed by Okaw Valley in 2nd, and Oblong in a close 3rd.

Class AA: This one is tough to predict.  We think Hoopeston Area will take it by a slim margin, followed by Paxton-Buckley-Loda, and Urbana in 3rd.

Class AAA: Edwardsville will overcome their slow start this year,  taking this class (as well as Grand Champion), followed by Champaign Central, and Argo.

Geneseo Maple Leaf Classic: Geneseo, IL

Class 1A: Wethersfield looks to take this class, followed by Kewanee, and Cambridge in 3rd.

Class 2A: Dunlap had a good first week out at Washington, placing not too far behind the class champion.  We think they’ll win here, followed by Davenport North, and Rockridge in 3rd.

Class 3A: United Township and Quincy begin their 2011 competitive seasons here.  United Township will win this class easily, with Galesburg in 2nd, and Quincy 3rd.
