Recommended Posts

Lincoln Way

Class A:

43.65 Round Lake (Perc, Aux, Music, Visual, GE)

35.25 Elmwood Park

Class AA:

73.35 Lockport

72.60 WWS (Music, Perc, Visual)

71.75 Wheeling (GE)

Aux: Rock Island

Class AAA:

84.25 Lake Park (all captions)

77.35 VJA

75.95 Lemont

Reviews coming tomorrow or Monday.

A few quick things:

-I really dig most of Lake Park's show.

-Marian's show is not done. However, this is a show that you must see. The time signatures, the dissonance...it is going to be awesome when it's done.

Probably some of the strangest scores......just shows how out of date the system there is.

Reminder B and C/D have different judging panels than A and AA

I'll be honest: why doesn't Canton ring a bell? Have they not competed at U of I in a while or have they just not placed in Class B before?

I was very dissapointed with the construction noise that was going on at the U of I competition. I could not believe they would allow concrete saws to blast away during the performances! It was very distracting and hard to hear the bands with that hellacious noise echoing throughout the stadium.

I'm not sure if Canton has been to U of I before, not in the last few years though. I only know of them since they go to many of the same smaller competitions as Galesburg. I haven't seen their field show this year though. They took their class last week at Washington I believe.

As for all the noise. That was definitely a disappointment. I was glad it finally stopped, but by the time it did all of C/D, B, and all but 3 of the A bands had performed. I was sitting pretty close to the field and couldn't hear some solos very well over the noise. It was completely unnecessary.

Can't say I agree with the Aux and Percussion placements in A.

Not even close.

I'd like to see the sheets. "Difficulty" must not be on there.

And I'd absolutely place Bloomington above MS and Galesburg.

But wait! Maybe that just shows how much I don't know!

Or how badly U of I needs to change it's adjudication system.

Effingham got 4th??? No offense, I just wasn't impressed by the show.

I have a question for anyone that would know - is there a penalty if the announcer doesn't ask "judges are you ready, drum majors whoever, is your band ready?" and the band just plays their show? It completely confused me when that happened once today.. I thought they were just warming up at first.

Britnik,

I am a member of the Effingham band.

We have worked extremely hard, and we are proud to place 4th in a class that are much larger than we are (we march 90). Also, we've had a great season so far and our director has pushed us to get to the next level.

I'm sorry you did not enjoy our show.

If you are talking about at LW comp today, then I believe there was no penalty.

Some might be timed specially for BOA events

Once again, U of I shows in full force why it is the laughing stock of all marching band shows in the state.

U of I is stuck back in the 1970s. That's why no one of substance takes it seriously other than Prospect, O'Fallon and Morton on a consistent basis.

I can't believe that Morton and Mahomet Seymour were that close. While Mahomet Seymour performed their show well, their was no comparison to the level of difficulty that Morton put on the field. I thought they were in a different league than everybody else...musically more balanced, and visually more difficult.

The only thing I saw with Morton was a few holes visually - this might have hurt them a little. Otherwise, they should have won the class by a much larger margin. And Bloomington should have placed higher - maybe second or third.

This is just my opinion.

I think they still do - with the three categories of music, marching, and showmanship.

Where is the visual part of this judging system? And what exactly is the score for showmanship based on?

I don't understand this judging system and probably never will.

There is no rule about that announcement and drum major salutes etc.

I'm sure you are referring to Morton. It is a timed, pre-planned opening for BOA competition.....as long as the judges are ready and the host gives the thumbs up...there is no requirement.
