Is Box 5 Productions confirmed to provide prelims/finals live coverage from ISU this Saturday? I see it on their website, but before I buy, want to make sure it is confirmed.

Thanks,

JDAPP

Yes.  Box 5 will be filming and webcasting prelims/finals once again.  $12.95 for prelims, $12.95 for finals.  Tim should be on today or tomorrow to talk more about this.

Predictions for this weekend are now posted! We had some very tough decisions to make. Please don't hurt us. :)

http://www.ilmarching.com/?p=1304

For 5a 6a finalists, I wouldn't be surprised if the first 2 or even 3 bands that miss the finals cutoff are all within about 2 points of the last band making finals (the 7th slot). Should be pretty tight.

Only talking about the top bands... Most in attendance at a more appropriate time in the season for evaluation. October 11 is not the culmination of a season for the top bands but for most it would be late October, with a few more like Lake Park going into mid-Nov. The championship is too early.

There's not many other dates that are feasible.  Middle of the month is really the only time that will work, what with BOA St. Louis and Indianapolis both in October now, and not really wanting to go up against U of I.

Also, since the "A's" start to blend together, I've updated the WIU predictions since I didn't realize East Peoria, Dunlap, Davenport Central and Moline are AAAA.  :)

And that is why I write that BOA Indianapolis is probably going to be (most years), the true Illinois State Championship. You'll have your top Illinois bands, almost without question, all attending and making finals, esp. in Super Regional format. We all know who the top bands are and which one(s) of those soar to a level beyond anything they produce in state competition, but BOA Indy will now be the de facto barometer for all.

Oh I honestly hope this will change soon (five years max please). I really wish there was a format that we could discuss with band directors, students, administrators, etc. to figure this out because I know I would want to show up and get some ideas out there. However, ISU (in its current permutation) is what we got for now and man am I going to enjoy the heck out of it tomorrow. :D

Agreed!  Maybe someday Illinois will pull its act together...  Looking forward to tomorrow's competition as well...

I don't see why some one at IMEA or IHSA (or maybe they work together?) looks to the east and steals a couple pages from ISSMA, especially when it comes to competition format, season format, and judging. The top Class A bands in Indiana excel at BOA competitions and ISSMA even has a few non BOA bands that are capable of GN Finals. For example, Homestead is (finally) returning to BOA this year and I am, without a doubt, going to be a giddy little girl come BOA Indy.

Not a fan of the date, but my God do they have such a great panel for both classes and finals. Better than probably most of the BOA events and definitely BOA GN Finals caliber. The bands are very fortunate to get their feedback at this point.

If you're referring to ISU, I agree.  If you're referring to Indy, I have a bit of an issue with the panel, maybe one I'll expand on if pressed/when the time comes. :)

I assume it is about DD correct?

Yeah.  I have a teeny, tiny bit of a problem with Broken Arrow's director and Kennesaw Mountain's director at this regional.  I feel that if you take your band to Grand Nationals, you shouldn't be hired to judge bands you will go against in 2.5 weeks.  Same thing with Jay Webb from Avon at the St. Louis regional.

ISU's panel today is superior to many BOA panels. It's too bad that this isn't a little later in the year.

I agree with you about judges judging bands they're about to compete with, but we know there has been tons of politics in BOA now and in the past. I don't know any of these educators personally, but as long as there is not a direct conflict of interest, their feedback/scores only matter for that one show and not for the big one.

Optics-wise, there's a large problem with what BOA has chosen to do. They are sloppy with panel selection at times.
