What about Morton and Lincoln Way West doubling up?

Morton ISU at 9:52 and U of I at 1:36.

LWW ISU at 10:06 and U of I at 4:38.

And then what if either makes finals at ISU.  Morton has made finals the past several years and I always like LWW performances.  Pretty aggressive move by both bands but man what a day that would make for the kids.

Morton has done the double  2 times before...it is actually a pretty exciting day!

Not to mention Limestone as well.  One (maybe two, maybe all three) of these bands will likely make ISU Finals.  Nap block time for these kids!

Also, does anyone know what's going to happen to the 1A Finals spot if Eureka wins the class?  They won't be performing in Finals due to homecoming.

Morton has also made finals 8 years in a row....not the last several years.

Interesting question about Eureka. Let's talk about what's "fair". Should they win 1a, who should get to replace them in finals? The 2nd place 1a band? The 8 highest scoring band in 1-4A? Or.... The 8th highest scoring band in 5-6a?

8th highest score in 1A-4A or just 8th highest score overall?

It would likely be the 7th highest score, but that's just arguing semantics. :)

The exact words from the ISU mailing are:

"

Finalist selection: The field for finals competition will be composed of 14 bands:

- 7 finalists from 1A-4A: four 1A-4A class winners, plus the next three highest 1A-4A scores, regardless of class.

- 7 finalists from 5A-6A: two 5A-6A class winners, plus the next five highest 5A-6A scores, regardless of class."

It's fair to say that ISU runs its prelims as two separate contests (as does U of I) with separate panels. Finalists are merged into one event.

So the decision about a 1A class winner declining would probably lead to another 1A-4A finalist. It might result in:

- if based on score, the band asked would be "the next highest" in 1A-4A, which might be the 7th highest score.

- if based on class representation in finals, the band asked would probably be 2nd in 1A.

Both are reasonable answers.

Just received information from U of I that in the event the contest cannot continue outside due to weather, it will be moved indoors to the Irwin Indoor Practice facility and continue as a full marching contest on the indoor football field.  Only spectators of each band will be allowed in for each performance due to limited seating.  Brief rain showers will not move the contest indoors - only weather which makes it hazardous or impossible to continue outdoors.

From U of I:

The Irwin Indoor Facility is a regulation football field in terms of measurements of numbers,

hashmarks, yardlines, etc… The field is 80 yards, however the addition of the endzones will

allow for a full field. High school hash marks will be added in addition to having standard

yard markers in place.

Please note that the performance area is quite acoustically live…  :-\

I don't see how they'll be able to judge music in there...it's just going to sound like noise.

That's the great fallacy of the dome.

The truth is, if it's clean (and in if the winds articulate the notes well ON BOTH ENDS), it'll sound like music.

But if it's dirty, it'll just sound like noise. Domes, whether an indoor practice facility, or the great LucasOil stadium, amplify your cleanliness and your dirt at the same time.
