I had no idea that could happen. Is that unusual?
Out of all the performances over a year...yes. But there are always bands that do it every year.

Most of the bands at Newton yesterday also performed at Effingham.

I know Eureka also did 2 shows yesterday: They played in Dekalb and at Pontiac.

Back a few years ago, ISU and UofI were held on the same day...so a few bands traveled between Normal and Urbana to attend both.

Those of you that know me know I rarely (if ever) complain about judging. That being said, I have some thoughts on the scores/judging process at NIU:

I applaud you for teaming up with NIU for this competition, but this scoring system needs to change. Go to BOA sheets, go to USSBA sheets, go to something better than this. When your highest score is a 4.20 in visual individual (translates to an 8.40 on a 20 point scale,) there's something wrong. Also, along these lines, when 4 bands score under a 1.00 in this category, that is terrible numbers management, and honestly, kind of degrading to the students and directors. Music performance scores aren't much better, with a 1.9, and a couple of 3's, on a 20 point scale.

I hope with all my heart that the judges gave ample commentary to justify these low scores. When bands are scoring 10's, 20's and 30's overall, there should be nothing but non-stop commentary on how to improve this year.

Yeah I agree, the scores for NIU were a bit low. At least they were consistent at being low. =\

Anyways, I was able to watch all of 4A perform and that was a great experience. Especially being able to see some bands that Ive never even heard of.

What really amazed me this year was Prospect. They are very clean and they sound really great.

I enjoyed LP as well, but I felt that there was too much dancing/moving around type of thing. Reminded me of the Cavaliers.

I hope everyone had a fun weekend!
