  1. Scores for 10/23

Very good competition, minus the rain. To all bands, you all were very amazing! Congratulations to all bands, finalists, and Marian. Job well done to all!
  2. 2010 Drum Corps Season

Oh this will be fun to go and watch. I am looking forward to a bunch of corps this year!
  3. Favorite Show

Nice - seems like they were quite loud - I never saw that year. Question: to me, some of the drill & music near the end looks & sounds similar to a couple of the LWE show endings from a few years ago - did LW 99 have same design staff as some of the LWE shows a few years ago?I can't say 100%, but i'm pretty sure Clif Smith was the only person working there who is now at LWEYes this is correct, Mr. Valkema Retired from LW Schools like atleast 4-5 years ago. His wife is still working at LWC

I have had a bad experience with unprofessional behavior before, and I will not mention the name of the band, the competition, or the year it happened, however it really made the image of that band very negative to me. Ok so there was one time at one of the competitions that we went to where we came in 2nd in class AAA and 2nd overall, and we applauded the grand champion, and everyone else, and afterwards, the colorguard director and a few students came over and said some things like "oh yea we are the best, we beat you!...ect." Which whatever, we really didn't care about it, however they were like, "We will beat you losers again next week" That was because we had a competion with the band, who I will not say, next weekend. So the next weekend competition came and we ended up winning, and beating them. Now our bands were right after eachother in the competition and so we stood next to them in the award ceremony, and when they announced the grand champion award they did not even applaud us at all, they just stared at us like we were inferior to them. To me that is very unprofessional, and it was very unclassy, however we did not do the same thing back to them what they did to us the week before, we just genuinely congratulated them on their trophy and headed back to the bus. I don't know about you all, but I think it was a pretty sad thing for them to do
  5. Scores for 10/17

Exactly. It's not like my band puts other ones down, we cheer for ourselves to celebrate what we have accomplished, but we also applaud others for their hardwork. I can see where it would be classless if we were completely stuck-up and act "above others," but I don't think cheering is unprofessional. We've worked hard since the end of July, it's about time we celebrate that our work has finally paid off. After much thought, I have come to the conclusion that the reason why my band in high school never cheered during awards was because my high school didn't put much value into awards at all. When we got out of a performance with no one really around, we definitely cheered out of the excitement for the product on the field. We never cheered "Oh my! We're going to get an award!", it was always enthusiasm for the show. In other words, we never cheered for our awards, but you always cheer for others, because they deserve to know that their show was good enough to deserve a round of applause. So to reply to the original comment about not cheering as arrogant: It wasn't that we weren't satisfied or that we were too good for the award, but we already were excited about the product we put out on the field. I agree, I believe it is about your band and feeling the sense of accomplishment on what you have put on the field, however in the awards ceremony I personally think that it is about giving others credit for their own accomplishments. Other bands deserve the applause, and I guess my Alumni band was just taught to applaud for every other band but our own, because they all deserved it. I mean I guess it is fun to applaud yourself, (pat yourself on the back), and feel the great work you have done.

I agree that there is a lock in LWN, LWE, LP, Prospect, and Marian The very good shots are Morton, NN, and LWC The bands that are on the fence line are Eureka, and DGS, and UT I have based these sort of predictions off of the competitions in the past few weeks. These are based on a clean show too, I think with a clean show the "locked", and the "very good shot" groups will all make it in. The class 1A champ will obviously get in as well, and I am still not sure on the fence line groups. Again my personal opinions, and not to make a band sound bad or anything, I think all bands at this competition are all awesome bands. I am so thankful for living in IL because of our marching bands, some of the best in the nation! I WANT TO WISH EVERYONE BEST OF LUCK SATURDAY! I'm sure almost everyone here would say that Morton is a lock. Just saying, I seriously doubt anyone takes 2A from them this year.I totally agree, the only two I can possibly see taking Morton, would be LWW and Dunlap, however I don't think they will this year. Again crazy things happen at ISU, so I am just throwing in room, for the unnormal weather that could happen, or just Morton has a bad Prelim and LWW or Dunlap has a great one, idk. Again I totally agree with Morton is pretty much a lock, however I am just leaving room.

These are some weird predictions... Lake Park isnt mentioned in your predictions either. I would liek to hear some reasoning and facts or proof to back up some of your predictions. Cause im really curious as to what your thinking. Of course your entitled to your own opinion i just wanna hear why you have that opinion.I agree that there is a lock in LWN, LWE, LP, Prospect, and Marian The very good shots are Morton, NN, and LWC The bands that are on the fence line are Eureka, and DGS, and UT I have based these sort of predictions off of the competitions in the past few weeks. 9. Lincoln-Way West

And from the great performance at the Morton Invitationals today, I would say LWW is a great band, as I knew they would be
  10. Scores for the weekend of 9/19

  14. ISU 2009

Oh really so this is final, interesting
  15. What is your favorite high school band memory?

More great memories, this is a truely amazing activity, and program. I personally loved every second of it, but now that I am out of all marching bands, I see how much I really miss it...
  16. ISU 2009

Hmm, these are some interesting predictions, only because I thought LWE would make it to 6A this year, and LWW is in 2A? I thought well they might have enough for 3A...we will have to see.
  17. ISU 2009

Even though I'll probably drive separate again... that is an AWESOME idea. As well as bringing sunscreen...thats fine Dan....we can stop for Coffee this year. I agree last year was a taaad early, hehe.Do I dare ask how early you were there last year? You were most likely down there before my band was even required to show up for morning practice...
  18. ISU 2009

Slacker...some of us will be there at O'Dark hundred! And last year, 1A had the closest score between 1st place and 2nd place, with a difference of .15 so you never know what competitivness you will miss if you miss 1A and 2A. I know I will be there before the first band goes on!!! It is just the ammount of time it takes me to get down there, I will prolly show up in the middle of 2A, but it all depends on how soon I can get down to Normal.
  19. ISU 2009

I agree that finals is the best, and it is exciting to marching it, and now it will be exciting to watch it! I may not be able to make for first 2 classes, as it will be really early in the morning, but I might show up around 3A to watch till after finals. I am really pumped to be in the stands this year!
  20. Lincoln-Way West

and to answer your question, I am no longer marching, although I have been considering playing in the Joliet Junior College's Wind Ensemble and sing in their Chamber Choir.
  21. Lincoln-Way West

Personally I agree with this post due to the fact that I believe that although the talents of the students do shine through when a show is being performed. I think that the director and staff have all to do with how the band develops and at what rate it does. With new Direction comes new traditions and new overall styles, being that both LWC and LWW will have the head directors 7+ year veterians from LWC Marching Knights, the style may not change too much as the new staff are just the assistants and techs. However I could be wrong too, on both opinions, Staff, if given the worst musically talented students, can only strive to achieve the best that they can do, which compaired to another band that is filled with exceptionary students, that first band will be considered normal. However, I also could be wrong on the styles, because the techs and assistant directors do have a lot to do with the band and their progression, because (this coming from my own personal experience) you see, and spend an exceptional time with the techs and lower assistant directors. They are the ones that are out on the field helping you, and giving you advice when they see fit. It is pretty rare to see the Head director out on the field giving instructions other than counting off and giving set orders. I, all in all, do think that it is a combo of students willingness, determination, musical talent, and drive in combination with the directors teaching and particular way of pushing the band to be all that it can be. Again just my thoughts.
  22. Lincoln-Way West

From what I've seen, particularly with L-dubs versus other schools its size, map presence is 70% staff, 20% school population, and 10% other. I really only apply this to those four schools, because the administration has always been supportive of the music programs. When Lincoln-Way won ISU in 1999, East and Central thrived on it through the time I joined in East in 2002. The staffs at the school will determine the success, and the groups will build off the year to year successes. The point where I differ with robes is over a long period of time, I'd bet we'll see Central equally as influential in IL bands as any other L-dub school. There's a pride there only that school can completely understand, and the Marching Knights are the centerpiece of that pride. After all, I did take up trumpet in hopes of becoming a Marching Knight. I completely agree with the statement above, being a graduate of LWC in 2009, and a marching knight for the past 4 years, I do know that the school does support the music program very much so, and that the school, as well as the student body do respect, and take pride in the fact that LWC's marching band, although not the best, is a great marching program. I think that the way that the traditions are past on from year to year, will actually deturmine the sucess of the band. Because like stated above, deturmining on how well the band's reputation from the last year, it will influence the current year to strive above that of the year above. Now I do understand that when compairing the LW's East will overcome Central, but I will doubt if North will ever catch up. In my personal opinion I belive it will always be East and Central for the 1st and 2nd of the LW's and North and West for the 3rd and 4th. (this is ranking the LW's not placing them in a competition) Again this is all my own opinion. But like I said this is graded on a fair and same ground. Now if you look at each program itself, you will notice the different style and such that each band posesses. East has a great sound, and great marching, with the slight visual added in. And Central, in my opinion, has better sound, and marching style, but lacks in the visual and crowd appeal style that East has. This is all the way the Directors make it. Ofcourse with Central and West split and one new director to each school, things may change, I would not doubt if Central or West includes more visual into their program. It is the Directors that make the program how they want it, and with new directors anything is possible! Please do not attack me, these are just my personal and un-biased views on the LW's. And I will say they all do a great job!
  23. Lincoln-Way West

I have quite a few friends from last years Marching Knights that went over to West Warriors, and they say not only are they having a great time, and working hard. But the director Mr. Steve Nedzel seems to think that they are on a good track for a great competitive year! So, I am interested to see how West does in the next few months, before the competitions start!
  24. ISU 2009

I am interested to see if Marian will have enough to go up the class, that will make things a lot harder on the 4A people, with trying to get more than one band to finals. Now do not quote me about it, but I do think that given a good season for some of the 4A bands they should be able to get another band into finals (this prediction is only if Marian moves up to 4A, and they win the class.) Again I know it is early, but I have no doubt that the 4A bands can get atleast 2 representatives into Finals.
  25. ISU 2009

LWC will most likely still be in 6A, they will have over 3,500 i am almost 100% positive
