  1. Shows for the weekend of October 22, 2011

You can take the question mark off of Ian Shepherd, Dan. He's most definitely probably the percussion judge, since he did EIU and also works as a percussion clinician for Smith-Walbridge. As for the rest of the judges, could you expand a bit drillwriter? I don't want to raise up the spectre of an ancient debate, but further explanation would help.
  2. Shows of the weekend of October 15, 2011

Checked out the early competition in Newton this morning and right now I am preparing to head to Effingham. So long as Twitter is working, I'll hopefully post a few updates from the mid-level classes. By the way, the weather in southern Illinois is perfect for marching band today: Mid-50's this morning and staying in the upper-60's at the moment. It'll be a bit chilly for some later tonight, but it feels wonderful.
  3. Scores for October 1, 2011

If I am remembering right, at EIU: Class 1A first place went to Atwood-Hammond and Class 2A first place went to Hoopeston. I can't confirm it though, sadly. I was working on other things on the field at the time and wasn't writing the awards down in my program.
  4. Scores for September 10, 2011

I wasn't there, but that is...odd. Perhaps some weird outcome of class-score inflation?
  5. Scores for September 10, 2011

Sounds reasonable to me. Glad to see Granite City being able to go head to head with Francis Howell North like that. The FH's dominated during the mid-2000's
  6. Shows for September 10, 2011

I'll venture to say they're just a little slow getting out of the woodwork and discovering the new forums site. Hopefully everyone will get situated quickly!
  7. Scores for September 10, 2011

Wow, I wonder what the tiebreaker was for Granite City and FH North. As for Class A, holy cow! That was some tight competition, with a surprise 3rd for Effingham. I'd like to see the score breakdown for these; hope we can get it. I think Effingham will get relatively stronger as the season goes on, though. Note: I just checked the scores database, and found that this is indeed the first time Newton has gotten 1st place in their class since 2002. Big win for them tonight.
  8. Directors

Sweet! He instructed me in high school. As for the Marching Illini, they're getting a great director.
  9. U of I Review

One thing I noticed was that quite a few bands marched bass clarinet this year. Not every other one, but probably more than one might expect.
  10. Band Size Vs. School Size

Can we just admit now that Marian is practically the Notre Dame of the IL marching band world and just make them their own class? I kid.
  11. Scores for October 9th, 2010

Thanks for the input from your guys' viewpoint. After looking at the recap sheet for the competition, I can see where the gap was between Newton and Robinson, and that was the visual category. It might not have helped that there was only one visual performance judge for the day as opposed to two music judges, but that's how it goes I guess.
  12. Judges on the Field?

The worst thing that can happen to a percussion section as a whole when you have an on-field judge is having the judge walk onto the field to get up close to the drumline when you are not playing, and the pit has its main feature, or vice versa. I believe this happened verbatim to me at Effingham in...2006. When a judge obviously has not heard your show before, it's understandable, but stinks because you may have lost the opportunity to be effectively judged and have your score boosted.
  13. Scores for October 9th, 2010

You know, I heard the reasoning for why the parking lot was switched, but I cannot remember for the life of me what it was. Sorry.
  14. Who wins Class 5A at U of I?

What about the fact that Hersey got the Governor's over Prospect last year?
  15. Who wins Class 2A at U of I?

It could go either way with Newton and IVC. I don't think Prairie Central should be entirely left out of the discussion, though. That definitely rounds out a Top 5.
