  1. Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

Speaking of cold, Marching Illini has practice at 4 tomorrow on the south quad. FREEZING!
  2. Marion Catholic PKG on NBC 5.

  3. BOA Indy Regionals Review

I thought the above was true as well. Maybe some can validate that for you. Do they know who the assistants are yet? I heard they hired, but haven't heard who. Yes, Mr. Johnson is going to North and Mr. Smith is staying at East. I don't know what any of you have heard, but Gekko is absolutely right. Best advice is don't believe anything until it is made public. Period. I'm an alum in touch with several members and I know nothing. In addition, no real information has been released as to whether or not East or North's shows are done or who's writing the shows. You can speculate all you want, but we won't know for a while. The season starts in like six months.
  4. BOA Indy Regionals Review

With Lincoln-Way, maybe...but trust has nothing to do with this conversation. The concept and idea DOES work well in other places. PERIOD. PCEP is three schools on one site. There is no possible way to make it work with four schools with even more students. Also, to suggest that an East student will become a marching knight and say SIAM is just not realistic. Sorry if this is blunt, it's just how it is. You guys sell SIAM cards too. Give me a break. East sells SIAM cards to make money for the music departments of the district. East does not say SIAM before shows, and to force East students to match the traditions of Central is ludicrous. SIAM means nothing to the current students of the Lincoln-Way East high school.

  6. BOA Indianapolis Regional

The enrollment criteria is outdated. BOA needs to expand this so that the true large schools are facing off with one another where the medium-sized schools and smaller schools face off with each other. Just because a band like Tarpon Springs, Kiski or Marian Catholic ends up in AA doesn't mean that they don't belong there. It's the fair place to place bands who come from schools who enroll that many. Marian Catholic, for better or worse, belongs in AA. While I understand your justification of Marian Catholic being placed in AA, it just seems sad that Marian is the only AA band to place in finals, and since they immediately win their class, no other AA band gets to perform in finals competition or in exhibition. This, of course, is only valid in reference to the BOA Indianapolis Regional because AA obviously is competitive when you have Marian Catholic going against one of the best bands in the country in Tarpon Springs.
  7. For comparison's sake...

I wish I could post links, but I find it fascinating comparing LWE 2002 (Goff and Valkema) to 2003 (Smith and Johnson) to 2007 (Smith and Johnson). While the latter two are from the same directors, the 2002 and 2007 programs are more similar to each other. 2002 has become a bit of a joke in the court of Illinois Marching opinion, but then to look at 2003 where suddenly the quirky LWE band goes to being the emotionally charched LWE band. Now, in the powerhouse stage of LWE which has just ended, the show reverted more to a strange theme. LWC has followed a somewhat similar pattern. 2002 reminded me of more vintage LW from when I was in middle school, whereas 2003 was very Gillingham, to say the least. The band then does a U-turn with Ride and finally another quirky, thought provoking piece in 2005. Since I'm not an LWC alum, I can't say I follow them closely, but their style seems to be more consistent then their sister school, which is something i've always loved about the Marching Knights since my first time seeing them in 1999. Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to change the subject there, but it's going to be really exciting to watch all four Lincoln-Ways develop over the next five or so years.
  8. Scores 10/20

Post of the month if you're an East student or supporter. I'm proud of them, but if they want to be a national contender, they have to work harder now then before ISU.
  9. ISU 2007 2.0

To mirror DCI Sop, great job to East, I'm quite proud. Griffins , Illini *Facepalm*
  10. Poll: Who wins 6A at ISU

LWN is never expected to have an enrollment over 3000, and will definitely be smaller than LWC and LWE. I'm pretty sure they won't make class 6A for at least a few years, if at all.
  11. U of I recaps are up

Not going to make a stink about this, I don't particularly care, but DCISop is right, LWE 2004 and 2005 were arranged by Nix, and to suggest that he is not a sufficient judge ludicrous. Edit: Who is a better judge than a college marching band director? This isn't an attack, but I'm interested in opinions.
  12. Yesterday's Shows Vs. Today (links To Videos)

Lassiter 1998 could win finals at GN any year. No one has come close since.
  13. ISU 2007 2.0

If there's one thing I've learned, never count LWC out at ISU. They always shine, particularly in prelims.
  14. Lincoln Way East show

I'm so pleased with how the competition has grown this year, and Lake Park is a real class act for attending. I wish I could go, but I'm doing the U of I thing. Good Luck to all participants!
