  1. BOA Grand National Championship Thoughts

I echo that and a fine performance this morning. Morton now should aspire to make semifinals outright. That would be cool.Come on, don't try to take this one from them.
  2. Judging discussion

Actually, from what some LWE alumni told me at ISU, the LWW school was supposed to be the high school for a new school district plan that was axed after the school had been built, so they kept saying that the school's enrollment isn't going to get much bigger because the kids are still being split up between the other school. In fact, they said that half of the school is locked-down because the school is too big for the small enrollment. I'm not sure if that's all true or not, and someone who knows more, feel free to correct me.Your statements regarding the LW district have a vein of truth to them, but show that it was a probably based on student rumor. The district expanded to 4 schools with plans for a 5th in Manhattan. The Manhattan students go to LWC today along with 1/2 of the New Lenox District, the other half of NL is LWW. Given the slowdown in the housing market, the likelihood of another referendum being passed (or even presented to voters) for that 5th school is infinitesimal. No plan was axed, it just hasn't been put out there yet because it isn't needed. From the LW website for the 2010 - 2011 school year: LWC has 1,985 students, capacity is 3,700 LWE has 2,256 students, capacity is 3,700 LWN has 1,831 students, capacity is 2,500 LWW has 1,300 students, capacity is 2,500 No school is half shut down. Hope this helps clear it up. Yeah, you probably know more than I do, haha. I just spoke to several LWE alumni with siblings/family in LWW. I may have misheard some things, or they may be mistaken, idk.

That's the attitude to have =]

  5. Scores for 10/23

I don't think so. I think they are getting the impression that the band has just gone unconscious...I kinda lost focus during the last part of the show, so the narration led me to believe that the strike on the head killed them. Thanks for kinda clearing that up!
  6. Scores for 10/23

Regarding Marian's show: Maybe someone can clarify this for me, but is the audience supposed to get the impression that they've been killed at the end of the show?
  7. Scores for 10/23

Yes, there could be a legitimate argument that sometimes early in the season they get a little boost off of reputation... ...but, you lost all credibility when you suggested again that there were 3A bands better than them at ISU on Saturday.
  8. Scores for 10/23

Forgot to address this: The fact that you would suggest that Bloomington, Lemont, or Rock Island were better than Marian Catholic is absolutely hilarious. In their own respective ways, they're all good groups, but to suggest that anyone in Class 3A deserved to beat Marian Catholic is one of the most ridiculous things you could ever say on here. I don't even have a word to describe how ridiculous that is.
  9. Scores for 10/23

But you did say that what they do isn't technically difficult. You said their show was fairly easy and that they shouldn't be sitting in chairs. Marian is the undisputed best band in Illinois for a reason. Their shows are immensely more intricate, challenging, and well-thought-out. Sorry, but there wasn't a show on the field that deserved to take them down.
  10. ISU reviews

I doubt its ever been recorded. But in the past, we have done an Indian Jones Raiders march, American Salute (compliation of american marches), we would have done battle hymn of the republic this year (its usually our parade tune with drill) and is like 5-7 mins. along with a Pom feature. Weve done star wars stuff. Famous cow boy music. I'm really glad I re-read the last couple sentences. :$
  11. Top 14 Bands in Illinois

The system at ISU was not the reason some larger bands that should have made finals didn't.....it was the judges....Warren shouldn't have made it....system's fault, no.I do like the new system. It's a fairer representation of the lower class, and really, it should be pushing that many of the big Chicago bands out. Their own performances pushed them out. That being said, Warren Township probably shouldn't have made it in. That one still puzzles me.
  12. Scores for 10/23

Those were not the three in I was expecting.
  13. Scores for 10/23

Which would put the last band in finals somewhere around 11:30-12? WOW.
  14. Scores for 10/23

if they cancel finals, i will be so mad. but, i don't think that's gonna happen.
  15. Who wins Class 4A at ISU?

    1. LWN 2. Normal West 3. UT
  16. Who wins Class 3A at ISU?

People really have Lemont or Bloomington topping Marian in the poll? Come on......... 1. Marian 2. Bloomington 3. Lemont
  17. Who wins Class 6A at ISU?

    1. LP 2. NN 3. DGS
  18. If you could create a marching show...

I've got a really random one I want to do called, "The Lynchian Dreamscape" with music and themes from the films of David Lynch and a few songs by Michael Nyman. It'd be one of those WTF shows for sure though. The first part is an onfield warmup and introduction, and its "Laura Palmer's Theme" from "Twin Peaks." Then it moves into a piece called "Jealousy and Revenge" by Michael Nyman Then it moves into the "Twin Peaks" theme song, and that's the ballad. Then it goes into another Nyman song, "Earth in Turmoil," and that'd be the end. There'd be a lot of weird stuff, and in the end, I don't think it'd make any sense...so it'd be just like watching a David Lynch movie.
  19. Bands of America Grand Nationals Results

I reallllllllly liked the random announcing going on at the end of BA's show...I thought it was a really awesome effect. I think BA's show may have been one of my favorites of the night. Along with Avon, Tarpon, and Marian. Wasn't a fan of Bell's for some reason.
  20. Bands of America Grand Nationals Results

Marian was dang close to 3rd! Heck, 2nd for that matter. Marian gave one of the best shows I'd ever seen. They should be so proud of that show!
  21. Bands of America Grand Nationals Results

Yeah, I was kinda surprised at the placements... I would have had Bell and LC lower. And I probably would have had BA higher. And I would have had Tarpon higher for sure.

  23. Grand Nationals 2008

What are some opinions on Grand Nationals finalists this year? After all, it's not too far away... I think it's going to turn out to be pretty interesting. Shame I'll only be watching it on a webcast I can only come up with 10 spots. I'm not familiar enough with a lot of out of state bands to pick the next two spots. Avon Broken Arrow Carmel Centerville Center Grove Kennesaw L.D. Bell Lawrence Central Marian Catholic Tarpon Springs And, I'd like to see Tarpon Springs win. I'm a HUGE fan of their show this year. Not sure why.
  24. BOA Indianapolis Finals results

Avon's show was definitely my favorite last night. I wasn't a huge fan of Lawrence Central's show this year. Carmel's show was great, and Marian's show was definitely worth the wait.
  25. Indianapolis regional list of bands

Oh I totally left Centerville off my list!!! Oops!
