  2. I would say go with whatever the regional norm is... so no, apparently. Just musicians.
  3. I have a recommendation: since so many shows during the season are classed based on band size (like the Lake Park Lancer Joust), perhaps that could be added to the band bio page? On the right side, under school colors, or with the enrollment/IMO figures? I have a large list I've compiled based on (a) numbers reported on band websites, ( counting personnel listed on rosters at band websites, or © counting performers in whole-field photographs or "picture day" photos. I can provide what I have, but can't vouch 100% for accuracy or current relevance.
  4. Scores for October 15, 2011

I'd agree, except for one thing: Morton. 2008 Finalist here, and a GN Semifinalist last year. I hate saying this, but for the most part, Illinois is way behind the curve in show design, with a few exceptions. There are always exceptions, and Morton is one of them. Reeths-Puffer (MI) and Wando (SC) would be two others I'd considered, because Muskegon and Charleston are pretty small metro areas (and Wando's way on the outskirts of Charleston, at that). Still, I'd say 95%+ of the bands that make GN Semis in a given year are from the suburbs of a major metro area, and 99%+ of the GN Finalist bands are.
  5. Scores for October 15, 2011

This extrapolates out to a GN Prelims score of only ~79. Might Lake Park miss GN Semis for the first time ever this year? Can you explain your extrapolation? Scores can vary week to week, let alone month to month. Still, I might agree with your final statement, but only because of the vehicle that the students have been given (unless it's been drastically overhauled in the last few weeks). But, the students know how to work hard and clean, so that might make up for it. I keep BOA rankings. Granted, it's an imprecise science, but BOA scoring tends to be pretty consistent from week to week, year to year. I will adjust the "factor" for the entire show if bands seem to be uniformly low or high. For example... The factor I ended up calculating for the 2011 St. Louis Regional was 0.91; thus, the scores at the regional should be roughly 91% of what the band would score at GN Prelims. Taking Broken Arrow: 86.45 / 0.91 = 95.00, and considering they've scored 96.40 and 94.45 at the past two GN Finals, this is a reasonable extrapolation (with a standard deviation of 0.50 points). So, for Lake Park: 71.90 / 0.91 = 79.01. Granted, scores in the bottom third at any regional's Finals tend to be lower than Prelims, so I'll have to see what LP got in prelims. But if it's close to what they scored in Finals, they'll have to work hard to top 80 or 81 at GN Prelims. There's the off chance that it will "click", their scoring will take off in the last part of the season, and they will end up quite a bit higher. But that usually only happens to a couple of bands each year out of the ~650 BOA Bands in my Excel spreadsheet.

It doesn't exist ANYWHERE in the country outside of the major metro areas. You look at each state's powerhouse bands, and they're all from the suburbs of a major metro area: Ayala (Los Angeles), L.D. Bell (Dallas), Tarpon Springs (Tampa), Kennesaw Mountain (Atlanta), Broken Arrow (Tulsa), Avon (Indianapolis), West Genesee (Syracuse), etc.

In BOA, I believe so. In UIL I think one or two others have topped Bell recently, like maybe Duncanville and someone else.
